SPACECAST

1994

Christie Pearson & Yvette Jancso

We created this installation in response to our visceral experiences studying architecture in Rome and Carthage. Surrogate relationships between bodies, materials and spaces were explored through photographic transfer, textile casts, industrial felt, paper, rubber, and debris. We developed room-scaled gauze casts using flour and water. We built up the material onto wall, floor, and ceiling surfaces of an empty 19th century warehouse.  As they were slowly dried and plied from the surfaces, textures, sediments, and latent spaces emerged from the process as we peeled and pulled. Embedded lighting brought these spaces alive, later to become the setting for a celebration.
