The establishment of the Art Museum with the uniting of the Justina M Barnicke Gallery and the University of Toronto Art Centre has created a major dynamic centre for art within the university and the city. Currently the UTAC main entrance, reception and gallery security are situated off the inwardly-looking quadrangle which is at odds with its new outward-looking focus. Creating a strong physical and visual link between the two galleries and providing easy, direct access for all is the focus of this renovation. Reinforcing the overall image of the Art Centre with new signage and an open, welcoming entry will not only enhance the connection between the two galleries. The larger opportunity is to create a welcoming, accessible, and exciting face from the gallery to the University as a whole.
